Ho Lian Ian
Member - Choral Directors' Association (Singapore)
Lian Ian holds degrees in Music Education and Choral Conducting from the University of Western Australia and University of Queensland respectively and currently conducts several primary and secondary school choirs. In her fifteen years of teaching, her choirs have consistently excelled in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation (Choir), a nation-wide event held annually to assess school choirs. Some of her choirs have also travelled abroad for exchanges and competitions. One of her primary schools topped the children’s choir category in A Voyage of Songs in 2005. In 2014, she led the Pei Chun Public School Choir to their first international Gold award in the Singapore International Choral Festival. She also led Geylang Methodist (Secondary) to their first international Silver award in 2016 in the same competition. Lian Ian believes firmly in a holistic education through choral music-making and has engaged her students continuously in non-competitive projects like combined school concerts and charity events. Her choirs have also been invited to perform with organisations like the Singapore Lyric Opera and The Windband Association. Lian Ian was a guest clinician and conductor for a concert by Singapore Men’s Chorus in 2015 and has conducted the combined school choir for the Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir Outreach Concerts on several occasions. Lian Ian was a member and assistant conductor of the highly acclaimed Singapore Youth Choir (now SYC Ensemble Singers). She currently sings with award-winning contemporary vocal ensemble, The Singers Vocal Ensemble, most recently category champion of the early music section and 2 nd prize overall in the 2014 Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Competition.
