Starting out with no formal music background, Amir began his musical journey in the Hillgrove Secondary School Choir as a Section Leader and its pioneer Student Conductor. In his term, the choir achieved a Distinction in the ABRSM Choral Examination and its first Silver medal in the SYF Central Judging of Choirs. As a longtime youth educator, Amir returned as its Assistant Choir Conductor in 2017. He led the choir to a Certificate of Accomplishment in the SYF Arts Presentation in 2019 with conductor-composer Lennie Chua, who he also conducts Woodlands Secondary School Choir with.
Amir currently sings in the award-winning National University of Singapore Choir, where he previously served as President under the baton of Nelson Kwei, Singapore’s premier choral conductor. In addition, he is a pioneer member of the Voices of Singapore Community Chorus where he is currently serving as the Vice-Chairperson (Artistic) under the direction of renowned conductor-composer Darius Lim. He previously sang in The Youth Choir under Wilson Goh, where he served as its Librarian/Outreach Head.
Amir’s passion for choral education has led him to become an active member in the Singapore choral community, having been involved and participated in numerous initiatives under Voices of Singapore Choral Society, Choral Directors Association Singapore, Raffles Choral Academy, Singapore International Choral Festival, and Choral Moments.
