Nicholas Tham

Dr. Nicholas Tham (b. 1982) is a choral conductor, music educator, and vocologist based in Singapore. He holds a DMA in Choral Music from the University of Southern California and a Master of Arts in Kodály Music Pedagogy from the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. His academic work focuses on choral music, music pedagogy, vocology, and composition.
Dr. Tham's professional experience includes performing with the Singapore Lyric Opera, delivering vocology lectures at Cornell University, and leading vocal workshops for organizations such as the Choral Directors Association of Singapore, Our Music Studio, and the Methodist School of Music. He is also the co-founder of the Music Educators Collective, a professional organization focused on raising the standards of music teaching in Singapore.
Currently, Dr. Tham serves as an adjunct lecturer at the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC), where he trains preservice and in-service preschool teachers in early childhood music education. He directs the Little Singers program under Voices of Singapore, using a Kodály-inspired approach to nurture foundational musicianship in young children. Additionally, he leads You Sparkle, a children's choir that is part of a school aftercare program.
As a music educator, Dr. Tham specializes in group instruction and Kodály-based strategies, fostering inclusive learning environments, particularly for children with autism. He teaches both solo voice, conducting, and choral ensembles, including two primary school choirs. In addition, he runs group singing classes and musicianship classes focusing on music foundations for infants through children aged 12. Passionate about mentoring music educators, he remains committed to shaping the future of music education.
